Conference “The Spanish Experience About Risk Communication: From Theory to Practice”

On 2, 3 and 4 May 2007, Dr. Francisco Vargas Marcos, representing the Committee, participated in the 2nd Workshop on EMF Risk Communication regarding Effective Risk Communication in the Context of Uncertainty, which was held in Stresa, Italy. During the workshop, our representative made contacts and talked with experts from other countries, which was of great use with regard to ascertaining different approaches and transmitting the Spanish perspective.
The main objective of this scientific workshop was to debate the most effective media for communicating health hazards arising from exposure to electromagnetic fields (CEM), with special emphasis on risk characterisation in an atmosphere of uncertainty. Another objective was to assess the best means of educating and informing the general public on EMF’s.
The Committee’s participation was noteworthy and wide-ranging; Dr. Vargas took part as incentive speaker in the session devoted to audience participation, he gave a talk on The Spanish Experience Of Risk Communication: From Theory to Practice, he presented a poster summarising the objectives and principal areas of study of the CCARS and, finally, he participated in the Information session as a moderator.
